Who we are
Fair Notice (fairnotice.ca) operates this site. It offers a free tool that estimates severance in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta and aims to list employment lawyers who act for dismissed employees. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how you can ask to see, correct, or delete it, in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
The severance calculator
The calculator runs in your browser and doesn't collect personal information. The details you enter are used to compute your estimate on your device and are not sent to us.
Directory data
When firm listings are published, each one will contain a firm's business contact information — name, address, phone, email, website, and practice areas — taken from that firm's own public website. That is a business's own published contact details, not personal information about a visitor. See how we list firms.
If you email us
If you write to info@fairnotice.ca, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you tell us. We use it only to read and reply to your message, and keep the correspondence for as long as we reasonably need it to handle your message and keep a record of it, then delete it. Email passes through our email provider's systems, which may be outside Canada (see below).
Where information is processed
This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (for example IP address and browser type). Information you send us, and these logs, may be stored or processed on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to those countries' laws, including access by their courts and authorities.
Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information. Fair Notice does not connect you with a lawyer or pass your information to any firm on your behalf — you contact a listed firm directly, on your own terms, if and when you choose to.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA, you can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact our privacy contact below and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
