Who we are

Fair Notice (fairnotice.ca) operates Fair Notice, a free educational tool that estimates Ontario severance and wrongful-dismissal entitlements. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the calculator and lead form, why, and what rights you have over it, in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

• Calculator inputs. Age, tenure, salary, role, and how your employment ended. This stays in your browser and is used only to run the estimate — nothing is sent to us unless you submit the form below the results.
• Contact details, if you submit the form. Name, email, and (optionally) phone number, plus a snapshot of the calculator inputs and estimate you generated, so a follow-up conversation has context.
• Consent record. The version of this policy, the exact time, the purpose you agreed to, and the IP address the request came from — kept as evidence of what you actually consented to.
• Basic technical data. Standard web server logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) generated by visiting the site, same as almost any website.

Why we collect it (purpose)

If you submit the lead form, we collect and use your information for exactly one stated purpose:

“To contact you about the severance estimate you generated and, only if you say yes, to introduce you to an employment lawyer for a free review.”

We do not use your contact details for anything beyond that purpose, and we do not sell your information to third parties.

Consent

We only collect your name, email, and phone number if you explicitly opt in by checking the consent box on the lead form — the box is never pre-checked, and submitting is entirely optional. You can see your full estimate without ever providing contact information. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing hello@fairnotice.ca and asking us to delete your record; we'll confirm once it's done.

Who we share it with

Right now, nobody. Fair Notice does not currently route or sell leads to any law firm — every submission is stored for us to follow up directly. If that changes in the future (for example, connecting you with a specific employment lawyer), we will only do so with your separate, explicit consent at that time, and any such partner would be barred from paying us a percentage of your recovery or settlement — a structural rule, not just a policy promise.

Retention

We keep lead records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose above, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. Calculator inputs that are never submitted through the lead form are never sent to us and are not retained anywhere.

Security

Submitted lead data is stored in a Supabase-hosted database with row-level security enabled and no public read or write access — only our own backend can write new records, and no anonymous or public API key can read, update, or delete them.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA, you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@fairnotice.ca and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
